HUAWEI strengthens its commitment to running at the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon 2026 with HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2
HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 took part this weekend in the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon 2026, a historic edition that brought together more than 30,000 runners and celebrated the 25th anniversary of the race, establishing itself as one of the most important events on the national and international calendar.
Starting and finishing at Paseo de Recoletos, the race covered some of the most iconic landmarks of the capital on a certified 21.097‑kilometer course, running through main avenues such as Paseo de la Castellana, Puerta de Alcalá, El Retiro Park, Gran Vía, Puerta del Sol and Palacio de Cibeles. The edition also stood out for its international appeal, with more than 36% foreign participation and runners coming from all Spanish regions.
In the competitive field, Kenyan athlete Levy Kibet Chematot claimed victory with a time of 1:00:49, followed by Shadrack Kipkurui Kenduiywo (1:01:48) and Ethiopian runner Berihun Moges Kedebe (1:02:08). In the women’s category, Ludwina Chepngetich won with a time of 1:08:30, ahead of Jedidah Chepkemoi (1:08:59) and Caroline Jebet Korir (1:10:28). Among Spanish athletes, Juan Antonio ‘Chiki’ Pérez (1:04:24) and Fátima Ouhaddou (1:13:52), top national female finisher, delivered standout performances.
The race once again became the perfect showcase to demonstrate the potential of HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 in a real competition environment. In this context, running clubs associated with the brand (Osom, Pata Negra, The Ginger Club and Pablo Lucero Run Club) took an active part in the race, reinforcing the role of the community as a key pillar of the running ecosystem.
Alongside them, their leaders — Rufino Paniza (Osom), Juan García (Pata Negra), Candela Pérez (The Ginger Club) and Pablo Lucero (Pablo Lucero Run Club) — put the device to the test during the race, highlighting the importance of group training, shared motivation and the use of technology as a tool to enhance performance.
Additionally, the ProFuturo race was held in parallel, which in its tenth anniversary gathered hundreds of runners over a 5‑kilometer distance. Esteban Patiño (15:29) and Antía Castro (17:45) claimed victory in their respective categories in a race defined by its explosive pace.
Technology serving performance
Within the framework of the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon, HUAWEI once again highlighted the value of HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2, a device designed to offer advanced metrics and science‑based training. Co‑created with double Olympic champion and marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge, the smartwatch is designed to support runners of all levels in optimizing their performance.
Among its main innovations is a 3D floating antenna architecture, which improves positioning accuracy even in complex urban environments. It also features a non‑invasive lactate threshold detection algorithm and an advanced real‑time running power metric, providing detailed insight into effort intensity and running efficiency.
The device also offers personalized and adaptive training plans, tailored to the user’s level and goals, enabling progressive, data‑driven improvement. Added to this is the virtual pacer function (or virtual accelerator), which guides the runner in real time to maintain target pace throughout the race, helping to refine strategy and improve finish times.
The Smart Marathon Mode completes the experience with dynamic pace guidance and smart fueling reminders, offering continuous support throughout the entire race.
Thanks to these capabilities, HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 automatically analyzes key metrics and adjusts training and race strategies with greater precision, directly from the wrist, establishing itself as an essential ally for those aiming to push themselves further with every kilometer.
