The Community of Madrid supports the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon as the official sponsor of one of the most international mass‑participation races
The Community of Madrid supports the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon as the official sponsor of one of the most established and international road races in Europe, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary. The race will bring together thousands of runners from around the world this Sunday in the capital, who will cover some of the city's most iconic landmarks.
The main distance, 21.097 kilometers with a course certified by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), will feature a total of 28,000 participants. Thirty‑six percent of them will come from abroad, mainly from France, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Among domestic runners, 61% are from Madrid, followed by participants from Catalonia and the Valencian Community.
The event also includes the ProFuturo race, a five‑kilometer event, bringing the total number of participants to 31,000 runners; 41% of those registered are international.
In addition to its social and sporting significance, the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon represents an important economic driver for the region. The 2025 edition generated a direct impact of 17 million euros on the regional GDP, increased Madrid’s income by nearly eight million, and provided an estimated tax revenue of 4.3 million euros. Overall, the total contribution to economic activity was close to 30 million euros.
The Community of Madrid has declared 2026 as the Year of Sports Tourism, a season in which more than 400 events will take place. Last year alone, these events generated 550 million euros, and for 2026 the figure is expected to exceed 1 billion.
